Damn, that Hellknight character sounds very awesome, and it suddenly made me remember Kingmaker is one of the few games that i can think of where evil doesn't equate stupid(most of all for the MC). Probably gonna fire it up as soon as i'm done with BG3.
Yeah, Pathfinder also handles the concept of the evil alignment very well, maybe because the writing also seems to recognize that lawful evil types can exist outside of sympathetic antagonists. Otherwise it’s straight up chaotic evil all the way with most other RPGs.
The discourse around the evil alignment is so bad that you have people straight up questioning if characters like Nok-Nok and the Hellknight actually are supposed to be evil rather than neutral. There may be an argument for Nok-Nok, but the hellknight’s introduction is about as unambiguous and perhaps as necessary from his point of view as you can get.
(Really, I thought I would hate the Hellknight, but he’s written with actual nuance and logic. He leans way more into the lawful aspect than evil.)
