I played with my desktop in 32 bit colour and my hardware sound acceleration maxed (under Win98SE). You could try that, unless you run into problems. I am not very familiar with XP. Can you setup a different profile for playing Divinity with the lower graphics/sound settings? If so, that might be easier than finding the command line options for making a batch file to make these changes. There are likely utilities for doing stuff like this. I vaguely recall looking at a toolbar program that was originally designed for games.... Let me know if you have problems leaving the graphics/sound settings maxed, and I will take a look for a suitable work-around (unless someone else knows an easy way to do this in XP).
