I tried to make a wizard today because I decided the cat's "meow" skill offered unbeatable versatility. And after all, I couldn't do the thing I wanted to do, the half-orc barbarian, so I thought I could just pretend my wizard was a half-orc and experience my premature climax. When I was rolling the new character, I wasn't really rolling the character. And when I tried to use my own dice, I found I couldn't set the stats below 8. And I rolled stats below 8. Also, you have to use all the points. And I didn't want to use all the points.
Right now BG3 uses the normal 5e point buy system, which enforces a sort of average where all characters fall within a certain range of power. Rolling will be added later.
And the cat familiar's meow is a bit strong with the current backstab/advantage system (though if was closer to 5e they should instead be able to grant advantage through the help action which would be equally strong.
A half orc barbarian is traditional and I would love to find one in the world to recruit as a companion.
