surfaces/environment interractions are a great thing every game should have. Just not how it works in DoS or in BG3 (for now).
That's your opinion, and you are free to hold it, but that is not how 5th edition DnD works. Larian stated that they wanted to make a '5th edition DnD game, not a reskinned DOS', but what they have released into EA, is more-or-less, reskinned DOS due to their implementation of DOS mechanics, and their lack of implementation of 5th edition DnD mechanics.
It is what it is, you may like it, but it's not DnD at the moment.
