Technically, none of these methods were even an exploit.

If you discovered an immortality exploit (as in the older bg) would you use it as it is the most optimal way to play

Those are all things that slipped through in the balancing process. BG2 wasn't perfect. It would have been a better game if those Cloudkill tricks wouldn't work.
But just because things sometimes slip through doesn't mean you stop trying altogether with some "If you don't like it, don't use it" mentality. Especially for things that are really obvious like barrelmancy.
