Actually, not only companion, part of the story too. I feel like I am reading some random chapters from a book, and can not figure out the correct order. Every single scene itself makes sense, but together it does not form one coherent plot-line.

Example: first time protagonist sets a camp and takes the long rest, Rafael appears. And every companion suddenly acts as if we discussed in length how useful the tadpoles in our heads are. What did I miss here? Did I have to set camp earlier to get that discussion? Is there a way to trigger that discussion at least with some companions? Or may be I had to finish some side quest before that would make my protagonist re-think the danger of the tadpole?

Another source of frustration is missing random scenes, like the one where Gale explains resurrection. I saw it triggered only once, still do not know how and can not get it again. I am pretty sure there are more (I know there are more!), I just do not know how to initiate them and as a result, I miss that content.

Companions is the problem in general, though. I get that Larian is not Bioware and deep companion system is not their thing. But there are some dialogues with them, right? Could at least some of them be connected to the camp? One time during recruiting you have a chance to ask "tell me about yourself" - then nothing at all, not even "hello", only the order "I want you to stay in the camp". If this is bound to the approval rating and I somehow managed to piss off all of the companions equally, then this is still not a good system, because I am hardly unique, and it means some players would never see that part of the game (I assume, quite costly part of the game too with all voicing, animation and scripting).

Even major events are not discussable, like with Astarion and the monster hunter - there is no way to anyhow ask Astarion "what was that about?". Not only that, you can not return to monster hunter and clarify anything either. There are several lines to select during conversation, but you can choose only one. Want to know the full story - reload and choose another. Not the best option, considering loading time.

So... Does anyone know a guide that allows you to maximize dialogs count and advises on the quest order and camp-counts to make the story coherent?

The general advice is to long rest as often as possible. Any time a character says "I'm tired" or similar while exploring, this is actually indicating that they have something to talk about.

I assume, in order to get Rafael the first time you long rested, you didn't long rest until after talking to Nettie? Pretty sure the game expects you to have long rested 2-4 times before that.

Many thanks! Yes, you are right, I was saving long rests mostly because even when you take the short one someone complains "we are dying here and you want to sit and rest". I took it as a hint "keep going for as long as you can".

Will check that thread too.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, is THAT why they say they are tired? I just assumed it was because they were out of spell-slots and hence "exhausted". Thank you very much for stating this, I am pleasantly surprised that Larian actually hint at their players when our companions need to talk.

Hoot hoot, stranger! Fairly new to CRPGs, but I tried my best to provide some feedback regardless! <3 Read it here: My Open Letter to Larian

I am basing this off of what some other poster said, so don't take it with 100% confidence.

It's certainly not because they're out of spell slots/daily resources though.
