Then there is potentially 'big' things like Viconia's romanced ending; if CHARNAME is a half-elf it's very possibly he's still waging a crusade against Lloth along with his child, for just one example. I don't want the past being dredged up mainly because of certain high profile films and games that seemingly delight in digging up beloved characters and taking a big squirty s**t on them. When BG3 was annouced my first reaction was "Oh, f**k, there's another teddy-bear-strapon'd memory" not "Hooray". I only got on board when it became very clear the game was only really a sequel in the theme of "How much are you willing to give up for power"
Even if you get a Mask of the Betrayer style thing where you decide who/what the bhaalspawn was, framed in asking an npc questions (eg: "What was their love, Aerie/Anomen/ect like?" you could very easily annoy someone and make them go "Well it wasn't like that in my head" depending on the response. Better to leave it alone imo.

edit: actually, a minor example of this was in Baldur's Gate II; certain npcs from the first game would turn up, even if you had imported a savegame from Baldur's Gate I where they'd died. If you raised the point you'd last seen them dead "I got better" was the answer, in one from or another, but even to my teenaged mind I found myself thinking "That's a cop-out"
