Hey everyone,
since my playthroughs of BG3, I used to romance Gale - because he is goodloking, witty, sarcastic, seems to be good aligned (although I saw Shar as goddess in the levelups????? ) and charming - no comparrison to Astarion (the arrogant asshole) for example. And my characters really fell madly in love with that wizard of Waterdeep.
BUT (and this hurts me to say) - he may be the only one in the party, powerful enough to have the potencial, to destroy a possible Endboss. With the Netheril-orb in his chest, he could unchain a huge desaster and destroy almost everything. So I really hope, I am not right, but I am afraid, that Larian plans him to BE a living bomb, to end the Mindflayer-threat (maybe hiveminds of the flayers).
Why do I come to this solution?
After the night, you spend with Gale, he mentions, what he could try, to get rid of the fragment in his chest. Then the banter continues and he serves a couple of solutions to his "Bomb-problem". First: To get rid of the fragment in the Astral plane or learn to control it - but he doesn't think, this will work without Mystras help... But there is a third way: The one, he mentions the next day! He tells you, that - if the fragment gets unstable, he would look out for a place, that is lonesome, maybe a moutain or the underdark, go there alone and would let it explode there.
Since you can only play act one this is, where my thoughts about his upcoming role (for my character) started. And where my heart really stopped:
Sadly to say (cause he is my most fav of all the caracters I am traveling with) I am afraid, my character will loose him in either way.
Why do I think so?
Because of the given possibilities.
First: If he wants to get rid of the fragment with Mystra, then he has to face Mystra again. And he was hugely in love with Mystra. That opens up the risk, that he falls in love with her again and abandons the PC for her.
Another possibility is, that he choses the PC over Mystra, but she gets jealous and tells him, he would get her help in exchange for his devotion and love. Since Gale is quite straightforward and ambitious, I am not sure, whether he would chose a mortal being over a Godess - he was in love with.
And if he would choose my Char, this opens up the possibilty of not getting the orb stabilized - and for a sacrifice of him at the end.... So we would be forced, to leave him, so he is safe, or to the risk, the orb unstables and explodes. Love and loss again.
Second: Another thing, which is I thik very likely: he will be the one, that is needed, to defeat the Endboss - with the orb, he carries in his chest and so maybe be the most tragic companion, we will have... To steer him into the last confrontation to get killed to save us all.
If you think about this: The orb has the potential, to destroy almost everything... I really hope, that I am not right (pleaseeeeee DONT Larian)... but he is the only one in the party, that could destroy the big endboss with one glance... errr... Explosion. And if this would be the Mindflayer-Collecive, it could even be, that this doesn't even happen in our plane, but in Avernus or in the Astral plane. So he simply is the one, that has the potential, to finish the game and the Endboss. And that saddens me a lot.
Maybe this is whhy he is the one, "easiest" to romance (and easiest to bond to him) cause that would hurt most, when you have to let him go...
So you would ony have the possibility to let him go in either way....
But there is a third possibility: and I really hope, that Larian leaves a way out for the "lovers" and the ones, that crave for a Happy End:
Finding a way, to get rid of the orb in the Astral plane and seal it there (or make a bomb there and kill the endboss - but not in Gales chest :D) - thus saving Gale as a mate for our PC... and a Happy End (since I LOVE happy ends)...
(And I really hope, that I am not right, with my assumptions)....
Thus to say:
Larian... you did a great job with this Game so far. The Graphics are amazing, the romances are stunning, I like the combat system a lot, and the chars have their personalities...
And Gales romance feels natural (maybe you should work a little on the triggers, cause I missed it on my first runthrough). Please continue this stunning and amazing work... (cant wait you guys to be finished, BUT take your time, so this will be a worthy successor of the other Baldurs Gate-games, you are on an excellent way ;))....
So guys and gals:
Gimme your thoughts about that? And have a nice sunday
Love
Silva
(Since english is not my motherlanguage: You can keep any spelling- or grammar-mistakes for yourself :D)
