I find Gale to be one of the most interesting companions. I think he can quite easily become (or already is) very power hungry and do whatever it takes to remove the tadpole. If this is not possible then I think he will find a way to use it to his advantage and gain great power. He seems to have an obsessive personality and I don't think he is over Mystra at all. I don't have any opinion about his romance (or anyone's) because I find it ridiculous, but from things I have read on here I think it will be necessary for the player to work to keep him interested unless it turns out that the player could possibly become a deity.
Your idea about him sacrificing himself to save everyone is one I had thought would be interesting. Something I would really like to see is if he leaves the group or is never recruited, then he ends up allied to whatever the end boss is and we have to fight him.
And what made me think: When I leveled up, the diety, he worships, was Shar - not Mystra. So.... what should that mean? Or is this just because of the EA?
On level up, it seems everyone worships Shar including our characters I think. This is probably a bug. If not, he could have turned to Shar because Mystra "abandoned" him or she could have promised him something.
I don't think you'll need Gale to complete the game. What if he dies and you don't revive him? What if you never recruit him in the first place?
I am sure we won't need him or any of them. I think anyone who leaves or is never recruited will show up as someone we have to fight later. Shadowheart
already invites herself to your camp to confront you if she is never recruited and there is a strong possibility that you may end up killing her.
If Gale is never resurrected I think he either will explode or someone else may have use for him and bring him back.
