It could somewhat work as an excuse if it was a GREAT system to play with a gamepad.
Incidentally, it really isn't. There are better control schemes even there.

What's funny is that even if we all know it's coming, the game currently doesn't even have a console version confirmed and it's a complete PC/Stadia exclusive so far.

Which is hilarious because this system was extremely unpopular with the two D:OS as well.
And it wasn't even a matter of getting used to it, since the more the user base was forced to stick with it, the more unpopular it grew.

As someone said months ago in the "megathread" on this topic, it feels like this shitty design is some sort of pet creation from someone high in hierarchy at Larian, who just can't let it go.
