I never break the ladder so far ...
But my party often ignores them completely and simply jump down (sometimes even to death) instead, when i dont click the ladder specificly, but send leader of my group down, or somewhere far. O_o
I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings.
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are!
