Can't answer your main questions but the PC backstory is whatever you make it. It can be as basic or elaborate as you want, we fortunately do not have restrictions or forced backstories like a lot of games. The Baldurian tag is a bit weird but you don't have to use that particular option in dialogues if you came from somewhere else. I just hope in later acts the Baldurian thing is still an option.
