In some games, a player character who dies can be ressurected with a cost. Usually, this cost is a decrease in attributes....Maybe minus 1 in constitution, intelligence, strength, and agility, after a character comes back to life and/or a drop of one level in experience. It'd be interesting to see something like this in future versions of Divine Divinity. After all, if the character is truly the Divine One, the game shouldn't be over just because he/she has been killed by a monster or a deadly trap..

Perhaps you could spend skill points on extra lives?

How does the ghost carry gold? Can you get attacked spiritually while in ghost form? Maybe you could get into a secret area this way (and only this way), by floating to a shrine in an inaccessable area? I'd make it a attribute loss for resurection, say one point in each attribute.

Who's seen the movie Fallen? It's about a psychopath on death row and the cop who put him there. After the psycopath was executed, his ghost flew out and into a guard. It controlled the guard until it could find another host. It kept trying to torment and kill the guy who put him in jail. The only way the ghost could die is if it ran out of breath. When it left a host, or the host died, the ghost had two minutes worth of breath to find another breathing host. If it didn't, it died.

Could this idea be used with the above? Come to think of it, I think they did that in Nomad Soul. Never really played it though.

ghost doing errand? what about death = being sucked into some kind of dark side & demon knight half can do something evil like snatching someone's life force to resurrect the other half (divine one) or both dies. of course nobody's giving up their life force without a fight.

How about : Dead = dead. More realistic is impossible and I just don't like all the fancy ideas where you loose skillpoints or gold to start over again. If you are dead, reload (I wish it was possible in real life <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />).

And what about:
When you're dead and want to came back to life, You must fight Your way from the other side and defeat demon who has Your soul to live again in Your world

Make me mad and for sure You're dead

And if you die on the other side? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Oh, and what about experience? Do you get it on the other side? If yes, then it would make the game easy, since collecting experience is just a matter of dieing and getting to fight a bunch of monsters. If not, players will get angry, because they want experience.

When You die on the otherside You'll start over 'till making Your way out <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

And if it comes to experience You will of course get it but only on the other side. When they kill U first time U will start there from lvl1. More time U get there its easier to come out beacuse U're gathering experience. The same thing to U're weapons and inventory.
It'll be somekind of parallel worlds.

More time, more fun <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Yup, in The Nomad Soul your soul would be transferred to the first person that touches your body after you died (or you could use a spell to enter a new body while you were still alive). Great concept, but the game lacked a lot <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> A finishing touch, for example

I agree with Lockmar, because if you can ressurrect you don't need to stop the game to win a fight against many monsters and a superboss too.

Hey Johnson, what you prefer?

Real , Real, Time - time you have to find and have to think fast to survive

Or

Rel, Pause, Time - time you press "pause" and have all time to think how to escape.

maybe there will be shrines...and/or monks that you have to use to rewssurect yourself...like if you die in a cave, you have to search the surroundings of that area as a ghost, and once you find a shrine or monk they revive you and your ghost gets sucked back to your body...but at a very very high cost...depending on level of character....like level 1-5 should cost 1k, 6-10 5k, 11-25 50k, 26-40 100k, and 41+ should be all your money or a skill point...like strength constitution, intelligence ect...

Isn't this exactly how it's done in Ultima Online?

But that basically screws over archers and mages, which Divine Divinity has... ehh... I think your no-pause idea won't go over very well with people.

that would be nice, maybe the right shift does spell A and the left Shift does spell B, or button One does A, and button Two, does B.
