This isn't an exact number but I'd estimate around 70% of my hits miss every single turn. I'm finding myself having to save every single turn and then reload it until I can actually hit someone, which is really, really annoying. If I don't save, fights stretch out into an eternity, or I end up with my entire party dead because I can't land a blow. Let me give you an example. I'm in a fight now and I've now missed on my first turn a total of 5 times. I miss, reload, miss again. Whether it's spells or weapons makes no difference. Are all my neutrinos spinning backwards or is anyone else having this problem?

Edit: I have just spent the last half hour on a fight and my party is completely dead because I cannot hit the enemy, but they have a nearly flawless hit rate on me, doing on average around 25% damage per shot. This does not make me want to play this game and I really want to play this game.

Sorry you are feeling frustrated.

All depends on your starting place. If you are coming from DOS2 where missing never happens the miss rate seems really high. If you are coming from table top DnD the hit rate seems pretty high.

From my perspective the battles are bit too short -- there's no reason to use strategies that only pay off in the 5th round or so -- and it's a bit too easy to hit.

I've played every major RPG since NVN. That includes everything out of Bioware, Bethesda, CDPR etc. Nothing, NO game ever in the history of gaming has ever had a miss rate of magnitude. I don't expect to have a flawless hit rate, and I don't expect it to be DOS2 levels (I mean it'd be nice but it's not essential) but I would like to hit now and then. To reiterate my edit, I'm posting this on the back of a half hour fight where I've hit twice, and that's because I keep reloading my saves. In contrast the AI hits 90% of the time and hits f'ing hard, doing around 25% damage to me, even though I'm over level.

XCOM is far better balanced than this is right now but I do understand that the two modern day XCOMs were released as finished games, not Early Access which is why I'm asking.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Xcom - the only game where 95% basically could be 10% :'D

This is pissing me off now, really pissing me off. I'm trying to rescue that Druid fella, I've been fighting that Drow lady for the last hour and she has - and this is not an exaggeration - a 100% hit rate. I've landed 2 hits in an hour. This is not right.

I have a few questions:
Which dice option are you using? Is disadvantage at play? Or do you have screen captures/video?

Larian recently updated the dice to skew towards higher rolls. So I can totally imagine a situation where the player has disadvantage and the enemy doesn't becoming incredibly frustrating.

Funny thing about Xcom is that the system has modifiers to be in favor of the player by default. Lol 95% my ass. Man that was a hard game.

I haven't got the faintest idea? I didn't know there were dice options? How would I tell? What's disadvantage? All I know is she casts bless on her first turn, which unsurprisingly is before my first turn, and no, I don't have the ability to record what I'm doing. The added problem is I have access to one and only one Trader right now and he has a grand total of 2 healing potions, and my Cleric can only cast two healing spells per fight. When the AI hits you for 25% (on average) health that's not close to being enough. I tried fighting the Hobgoblin, his first turn he one shots Gale, the Goblin healer then chucks a Molotov that one shots Wyl. The next turn they finish those characters off and the turn after that I'm one-shot again. How am I meant to play a game where the AI has twice my HP despite being a level below me, can one-shot me and I can't land a single hit on him? Sure that's an extreme example but it was the same with the other Goblins in the camp. I can't hit the broadside of a barn.

For Gale you can cast his mage armor before the fight starts and also if you are getting frustrated at missing, his magic missile spell never misses. Food also heals, and there should be a lot around the goblin camp. If you free Halsin first, he can also temporarily join your party and help you fight the goblins

I don't have that spell. I'm only level 3. I'd level up but I'll damned if I can find anything else to fight. How do I free Haslin? I can't even find the bugger and all the online guides are telling me I need to kill the three bosses. I can't even kill a normal goblin let alone the three bosses.

It is available in the Wizard Spell List, so Gale at the very least should have the option for it.

I'm sorry, it does. I have the exact same problem whether I use spells or weapons. The majority of the time they miss, including Magic Missile. How do I free Haslin? I can't even find the bugger and all the online guides are telling me I need to kill the three bosses. I can't even kill a normal goblin let alone the three bosses.
Halsin will give you the quest to kill the goblin leaders, but you can let him out first to help you. He is on the upper right side through the door. He is in his bear form, so you should see some goblins throwing rocks at a caged bear.

Which is locked and the only trader I have access to (the Halfling in the Druid sanctuary) doesn't have any lockpicks...

If it is the right door (northeastern side), you should be able to interact with the door without needing lockpicks.

I think the blacksmith in the tiefling section of the grove sells lockpicks anyways?

OK I got him out but it still doesn't answer the underlying question: Am I the only one who misses the majority of the time or is everyone having this issue, and if I am the only one, does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
