Really struggling with darkness. My main character is half-elf so when I control him things are fine, but then when I switch to Wyll I literally can't see anything when I'm in dungeons. It's so dark and makes combat really unplayable as i can't see basic terrain etc. I realise that Shadowheart can use a circle of lights cantrip to make it better but then i have to wait for her turn to do that. I have no issue with darkness being a feature of the game for combat advantage etc. but when I can barely see anything on the screen it's a really poor user experience. What happens if i have a main character that doesn't see in the dark? Half the game becomes impossible to see properly without the massive hassle of using torches or spells. And during combat you cant use a torch. Is this really what people think is a fun mechanic? Am I missing something?

To build upon @RagnarokCzD's response, you should be able to use a torch in combat just fine. In Patch 1 I believe you could even dual-wield torches...not sure if that's still allowed. But you may be able to have Wyll's main weapon in one hand and a torch in the other depending on how Larian coded it...

Alternatively, you should always be exploring with lit torches. When combat starts, use the "Throw" action to throw it on the ground near an enemy and it will stay lit. A better solution is probably to cast Light on your tank party member, but there's bugs associated with this I believe.

Not since Patch 4 ...
If you drag your Torch on your hotbar, it will automaticaly switched for your previously wielded weapon when clicked.

Personaly i usualy give Torch to my Wizzard, Warlock, or Cleric ...
They dont attack in meele too often anyway (maybe except Cleric ... if you dont use him as support), so they could at least work as source of Light. smile
Also note that Torch have 1d4 bludge and 1d4 Fire damage ... maybe i get it wrong, but single handed 2d8 damage with permanent dim light on surounding space? That sound like some serious weapon for low levels. laugh

Thanks all of you for that advice. I will give it a go and maybe look at giving Wyll a torch and see how that goes. Much appreciated.

Just remember that light from torch have its range ...
So if you would attack some really distant target, it still can be obscured by shadows.
