Hey everyone - first time poster. Hoping people here can help me out.

I want to try this game with my wife - we live together (obviously) and each have our own pc. I was planning to buy the game on GOG (but Steam could be ok if it makes a difference) - can we play co-op together off 1 license? I normally only ever play games like these solo, never really play co-op. I tried looking up this information online, but i'm confused by all the terms i see, like couch co-op, lan co-op, split screen, etc. Essentially - we each have our own pc - can we play a game together with just 1 purchase, and what are the limitations if so?

I'm not trying to be cheap and avoid buying the game twice - simply put I'll pay the price in a heartbeat for me as I'm a huge BG2 fan and know I'll like it - but i'm not sure if she'll like it or not and would hate to pay 65$ a second time for her to not like it a couple of hours in. Would like to at least start slow to show her around some - perhaps even eventually buy the full game for her too if she likes and commits to it if there are any limitations by sharing 1 license. So I guess questions are:

1. Is there a way for us to play together off 1 same license on 2 pcs?

2. If so - are there any limitations?

Thank you!

Why not let her play the game for a bit and see if she likes it first?

My husband and I started off taking turns playing on the 1 license on his computer.

He then bought me my own copy so he could have his computer back. :P And then we could play multiplayer.

1) Yes ... not sure if that is actualy legal tho. So i shall certainly not tell you here how. :P laugh

2) None as far as i know, but you might have a little dificiuties with raising reputation with certain companions, since every dialogue choice will add some to that one who picked it ... yet many of them can be picked only once. O_o

I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. frown
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are! frown

Yes - when playing multiplayer with 2 custom characters and 2 companions, unfortunately the reputation does not update for the secondary player, and some of the pivotal companion conversation scenes don't trigger for the secondary player.
I am sure this is one of the many kinks yet to be ironed out. The ability for the companions to have different views/reputation levels for different player characters IS there in the character sheet, but I feel it's currently not working correctly.

It's easier when there is 1 custom character and the rest companions, with you both controlling 2 characters each, but there can still be conversation issues, as the companions controlled by the other player just say "now is not the time to talk".

That's how me and my wife play using custom characters in 1 party.
