They should still add a Custom background which lets you take any 2 skills and one tool proficiency (if there will be tools).
This is definitely needed.
-This game badly needs to do a better job of teaching people how to play the game. A day-in-the-life tutorial before your abduction, with flavor based on your background would help it to feel like you are inhabiting a character with a life rather than someone who was essentially born on the mindflayer vessel.
I can agree that there needs to be a better tutorial but forcing it to be based around backgrounds is really limiting. Would prefer them to just make the ship better and not be locked into things that do not fit certain characters. There are too many possibilities for each background to work it in as a tutorial. Maybe add occasional dialogue options since these don't have to be used if they do not fit, but nothing more.
-Each background, aside form its' overtly mechanical features, comes with an Rp-based descriptive feature
-You get a tag for that background
-Each background has at least one, ideally two or three places in the game where use of the tag either in dialogue or in an examination will allow you to succeed automatically or even exceptionally well, where others will need to make checks to do the same.
This could be a good idea since like the Baldurian tag option, we could choose to not use the background tag option if it does not fit the character. I would leave out the descriptive feature maybe, since even that might make too many assumptions (a common one is that all criminals steal or are part of/going to be part of a thieves' guild.) Unless they add the custom background, then that could be what we use if whatever they have doesn't fit.
