My guess was that goblins were "too small".
But Sazza's dying when not hidden...
And hostile goblins are never damaged by the statue even if they come closer...
Anyway a trap you can spot and disarm would make a lot of sense and would be an interresting gameplay element.
A statue that attacks anyone that is not hiding doesn't.
And I could even say that it's just boring and frustrating rather than "fun", especially with this stupid chain.
