Aside for any passing consideration about the current state of the writing, it seems to me you are making a buttload of assumptions about what we will and will not be able to do with and about the companions (or other characters) as the story progresses.

There’s absolutely no evidence we “won’t be able to change their minds” about things.
If anything I’m afraid of the usual, gimmicky, game-y situation where the exact opposite will be true and each one of them will end up bending backward to enthusiastically adhere to whatever the player will want.
