On topic, it always felt to me like my character was a non-entity; they just serve as the glue that binds together this band of ragtag misfits. The show is about the companions, not me. Nearly every conversation is about them and what they want or revealing some piece of their story. They are telling me things and how I react determines how far I get in the conversation. They are relatively immutable, with the possible exception of how much they approve of me. They always want something from me - I don't get the opportunity to want something from them. There might as well not be dialog options - the whole thing can be a scripted cutscene.

Also, they never ask about me, who I am, what I want, what I think about them, etc. (which would be a great way to flesh out the player's character a bit). I get the feeling you could remove the player from the game entirely and not much would change. It really feels like Larian should get out of the video game business and just make a movie instead.

I couldn't agree more.
