This is only an idea, but if Mr. Larian has enough resources for such project it could be a potential success if they used their latest Divinity engine to remake BG 1&2. True to story, lore of BG 1&2 and AD&D 2e ruleset but with BG3 features and graphics integrated. I know that first BG3 has to be finished and then patched for a while, but somewhere in the future this could be done.

Totally. 100%. I'm afraid it won't happen cause enhanced edition is a thing. But it should.

Alt+ left click in the inventory on an item while the camp stash is opened transfers the item there. Make it a reality.

Nah. I'm so sick of remakes. There's nothing like the original. Name a remake, movie or video game, that was better than the original.

BG1 and 2 have nostalgia value at this point. Larian would be walking on VERY dangerous grounds trying to remake them.

Thus far, the only remake I've enjoyed that I thought was well done was FF7.

ugh. I'll be 50 by the time the FF7 remake is done and by that time it'll have turned into another Kingdom Hearts. I'm done with remakes.

lol. true. same. One reason I was so excited about BG3 is because it IS new. It's not just regurgitating the same story AGAIN.

"The Thing" movie by John Carpenter was far better than the original, especially the part when they did the blood test ... oooh!

Never saw either.

Come on now. You know what I mean. Larian's already received tons of flack about how BG3 doesn't even feel like a BG game because it doesn't play like BG1 and 2. They'd be HUGELY criticized if they remade BG1 and 2. The fans of the originals would curse them with Hex spells and hunt them down with Hunter's Mark to the very last person.

And then you started as a prisoner on a foundering ship, met some companions, experienced an overwhelming force, were thrown from the ship as it crashed, but were 'saved' by some mysterious greater power, only to wash up on a beach.

....

Yeah... 'New'

Well. New for me anyway. Now that you mention it, I do remember some saying this was done in DOS or something. I don't know. Never played them.

Well. Whatever. If you think about it, is anything really ever truly new? Even the concept of D&D is regurgitating ancient myths and lore. Right?

It is all about the twist you put on the same old story. What nee mysteries are they weaving? BG3 has its own mysteries going on, so yeah. New. It's not just retelling BG 1 and 2.

Sorry, it's just, I've literally been in conversations where someone has commented that Larian have recycled their intro sequence for this game, directly from D:OS2, and when challenged to describe it, and doing so, the other person has stopped them, told them that they already know how D:OS2 starts, and they wanted to know how BG3 starts... only to be told that the first person WAS describing how BG3 starts.

It was a mostly joking side comment, but I found it amusing to see someone describe it as new when the intro sequence is a beat-by-beat recycling of the D:OS2 start. They didn't even TRY to come up with a different starting trope...

I'd LOVE a remake of BG1 and 2, but absolutely not by Larian. They wouldn't have any respect for the original work IMO.

As the years go by, we are seeing more and more remakes/remasters/re-packaged same games and less original titles by all the big devs. They have to cater to mobile, consoles, PCs, Stadia, socially <<acceptable>> stuff, gender checklists, political correctness, etc....

I have moved on to Indi devs games because thats were all the interesting, creative and unique stuff is.
Studios back in the 90s, like Westwood, ID, black isle, Blizzard, Origin...werent that big and would be considered <<Indie>> by todays standard. Thats were all the legendary games came from. They didnt give a FUCK what people inside AND outside of gaming thought of their games. They went out 1000% to make amazing stuff.

Sadly Larian seems to fully want to join the AAA club. I guess thats what happens when the creators start having families, twitter feeds and investors to take care off...one must reevaluate the big $$$ picture.

So if your young and creative, NEVER BEEN A BETTER TIME.

Personaly i would like to see BG1&2 remastered ...

But im affraid Larian is not the right studio for this ...
I mean, if they would re-create the game to turn-based mode, it might be interesting for some people (myself certainly included) ... but i can clearly imagine that crowd with pitchforks and torches marching towards their studio, so they "express their opinion to this change". laugh So this would never work.

Personaly im not fan of studios who have too wide scope(?) ...
In my opinion its better, when studio that makes excelent strategies keeps to strategies ... studio that makes excelent FPS, keep makeing FPS ... etc.
It usualy ends in disaster, when strategies making studio try to create RPG with zero experience in that field. -_- (YES, im looking at you Paradox!)

So ... taken over and over ...
I would like to see this, but i would thrust more to other studios ...
I cant get out of my mind names like Obsidian, BioWare, or maybe even Blizzard (wich is impossible, since they have their own playground) ...

Well ...
Warcraft III, Mass Effect trilogy, Final Fantasy 7
With some good will, any another title of games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, etc. could be concidered remake, since all they do is updating graphic, and sometimes add another characters. laugh

I dint play any other ...
So i cant quite judge.

But if you want movies ... whole marvel (and DC) cinematic universe. laugh
Google the old ones (and by that i mean 20y+), and if you would have feeling that any of them is better ... we obviously have different taste. laugh

I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. frown
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are! frown

You should check out Capcom's Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. The originals are considered masterpieces but the remakes just blow them away in every aspect.

RE2 (the remake) is easily my favorite resident evil game.

Sometimes a Remake can be very very good, one of the issues though is there are many cases of content being rehashed with no passion.

Imagine them remaking BG1 and 2. Even if they took all the original voice acting files and used them, imagine how many more they'd have to record with the same voice actors jist to make it work. That's just one of the things they'd have to do.

I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of BG1+SoD+2+ToB as one game, but I'd rather see that a long time from now, after BG3's cycle has faded a bit.
It'd likely be a very big challenge even more than BG3 even with a completed engine, so definitely don't want it to be considered right now.
