There are two big (fantastic) fanmade mods for that remade the first BG1 game and the first IWD game in the Aurora engine for NWN2.
They picked the original resources of the games (videos, voices etc) because they got the permits and stuff. They used the same dialogue trees of the original.
And they still got a lot of flak because they weren´t faithful or because they didn´t changed much, even it was a fanmade free work... I do not think you can make a remake that pleases all people XD I think many people want the remake to fit the one they have in their head, not the game as it was in the first place.
