I would much rather they payed homage to BG1 and BG2 and their respective expansions in the upcoming games, be it through established lore or through cleverly designed encounters e.g. Minsc coming back or the seemingly small character of Faldorn having influence over the shadow druids after all these years
If done in moderation and with taste, which Larian is doing so far, it validates and gives importance to the previous games much more than a remake ever could.
Its a tricky subject, I'd probably support the project if it ever became reality but I don't want anyone to soil the memories, no matter how annoying THAC0 and the rest of the glaring issues with 2nd edition are.
