They could be redone with modern graphics and turn into amazing games again in a new iteration... but the temptation to screw around with them just to add some "new" or bring them "up to speed with modern ideology" would simply be too great. People have a hard time not injecting their own spin on things. Sometimes that works out, but usually it is death to any sort of attempt at a remake. You'd most likely end up expending an incredible amount of time and resources just to end up with a hodge-podge game that no one would be truly happy with and that would never fully live up to anyone's expectations.

Also, what DiDiDi said...

I could see remaking the original "Gold Box" games - they date back to the stone age of computer games - a far cry from BG1 and 2.

The oldest Gold Box games on computers are like hack&slash 99.5% though they were before my time I have bought as old games decades after release date not intersted in oldest.
I have also read the books Pools of Darkness and Pools of Radiance Dnd books and yes it was ok reading.

I dont want a game that is 99,5% hack&slash. If you want that kind of gaming nothing wrong with it but why not play Diablo 3 or Diablo 4 when it is eventually released?

Neverwinter Nights 1? It was great, but the most good factor of Neverwinter Nights was the powerful tools that made so community could make standalone adventures modules and even multiplayer player driven server persistent worlds.

I played also Neverinwinter Nights 2. I played Neverwinter MMO for over a year until got bored on it. Neverwinter MMO is DD 4tth edition, but it was a lots of grind like World Warcraft MMO. Before Neverwinter MMO I played WOW MMO.

I played World of Warcraft MMO at the height of its most popularity, but quit when the silly Panda expansion was released. Wrath of the Lich King expansion then WOW had most players at top popularity with more then 12 million active player subsriptions (pay/month) and that was the best glory days of WoW MMO and it was the most popular WOW expansion released.

What I would mostly want to be honest is powerful tools so community can create own adventures have player driven game masters and even create persistent Online multiplayer server worlds. That was possible in Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2. That or BG1 and BG2 recreated.

When I mentioned "BG3 features" I was referring to close-up face to face dialogues with facial animations and voiceovers, etc. I don't wish remakes to change core game mechanics, just to remake them with better visuals and audio with modernized rpg features.

Yeah, you might be right. It would be a tedious task to just re-make BG1 and 2 on 1:1 scale.
I'm lowkey counting on BG3 mod tools for this ^^''''

Unfortunately, I don't think that would help much:

Andrew Rechner, along with a very small team, took 7 years to recreate BG1+TOSC in the ( 2005-era ) NWN2 engine; without adding to the original sound assets at all, just making an updated 3D experience, with scripting as close as possible to the original game. It has taken them another 7 years to do BG2+TOB, which they hope to release in 2021.

The tools available for NWN2 were actually very good ( I used them myself ) but the scale of such a task is more than most people understand . Another 15 years on, even with a good BG3 toolkit, I suspect it would be very difficult to do much better than Andrew & friends without a really large multi-talented modding team.

As an alternative comparison, The Elder Scrolls Renewal Project has been trundling along for 15 years now, trying to rebuild Morrowind in the Oblivion engine, and subsequently rebuild both Morrowind and Oblivion in the Skyrim engine. The "Skywind" team have got closest to actually releasing anything, but I would guess they are still some years away, as they have essentially had to build all the visual and audio assets from scratch. Even with the dozens ( possibly hundreds ) of enthusiastic modders contributing, it may not even see a release before TES6 appears, if ever.

I honestly doubt there are enough D&D afficionados that would be prepared to put in the work necessary to re-create full games from the past, considering that even elder scrolls fans ( probably the largest, most enthusiastic modding community ) struggle with it.

On a brighter note, a good toolkit might at least allow everyone to experience BG3 the way they want, as well as give us new, interesting stories from those that want to author them with existing assets.

BG3 has good graphics. I do not agree that BG 3 has bad graphics as Kani says... I am not saying BG3 is a perfect game like 10/10, but the game is in ALPHA. I have played ALPHA and I would not agree graphics are bad on maxium graphics. Example I liked much the horror effects in the Crypt in the beginning of the game the unnatural horror place with smoke etc. The outside world graphics is fine. You could argue that perhaps Elven could look slightly more Elven. However if criticism the first point I would not say that graphics is bad.
Guys, I did not say the graphics are bad in BG3. I said they were ugly. In terms of technological quality, yes they are top-notch. It's just how they look that I find to be ugly, which is to say, it is the art style that I have a huge problem with. Art style and graphics quality are separate things.

Yes, so far the art direction is lacking. It would help to have some day/night cycle for different lightning, more grit and gore. Everything is so clean and plastic at this point. Maybe it is an Alpha thing, maybe Larian don't have what it takes in art design. Only time will tell.

Let Larian remake the original Divine Divinity games or anything they actually understand/like.
My understanding is, ignoring the new characters that were added, there are several bugs that it had introduced.

Yeah, EE for BG were a buggy mess back then. But now they aren't and they introduced a few cool QoL.
