I am still surprised that they did not have proper reaction system worked before EA, it's so core to D&D.
Not that surprising when you realize that they just quickly slapped together a full-price EA using DOS engine and DOS-everything so they got the fund to actually get to work on... whatever they're going to work on. It's not because they'd had all the core mechanics in place that they made the EA available. I haven't played the EA but I get the feeling anything that is completely new to the DOS engine hasn't been implemented, or is far from properly functioning.
What makes you think your opinion on a game you’ve never played is valid? As someone who has played both games they’re a very different experience with many system changes and the things they share are welcome additions. There’s plenty of issues with this game but the carry over from DOS engine is not it.
They’re working on a reaction system which, from a game developer standpoint isn’t easy to implement in a meaningful and enjoyable way for players. At a basic level you’d have every enemy attack paused to give you the chance to react. The best implementation I can think of is to que a reaction so that it activates if the trigger is executed. Which is a whole mess of programming to do.
