Every playthrough I've played, I've run across a tiefling woman in the druid grove who gets splattered by a "Bugbear Assassin". She appears to be using a nearby telescope. I've never managed to save her, try though I might.

Who is she, what is her story? Why are bugbears trying to kill her? What does she know that she has to die for?

Spoil me please...

As far as i know, its not about what she "knows" but more like what she "have" ...
As it seems, she was in Avernus in the past, and *somehow* won a soulcoin ... and now the fiend who owned it before wants it back. O_o
Dunno where it take bugbear tho. :-/

I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. frown
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are! frown

How have you never saved her? I have played like 8 times and I have never failed to save her.

you just gotta shove the bugbear off the cliff.

Yes I looked through the telescope and got a blurry view of a lizard.

If you're having trouble saving her try entering turn-based mode before getting to the top.

Also when you first reach the Grove, head to her first, before anything else.

i hate the ai for that encounter. She runs away first turn. Great. Then IMMEDIATELY afterwards, runs straight into the bugbear who of course ignores everyone else except for the girl without a weapon and kills her. then he just randomly pushes one of my guys off the cliff (doesn't kill them) and dies. It's annoying.

I always kill him first turn before he can really do anything so I don't really have these issues...

Didn't mean that negatively, sorry.
More meant it that through so many iterations after figuring out how to shut him down the first time, it's just become a pattern for me. Isn't even skill, just habit. If anything I kinda want that encounter expanded a bit possibly, mainly because it's become so... repeated for me.

That was kinda uncalled for boblaw :P anyhow. Turning on turnbase as previously suggested is a good solution. Try making use of sleep or another CC skill. Def could help! Other options would be to buff the tiefling to improve her chance to survive like aid, false life, mage armor. Trying to disengage her asap by shooting the bugbear with a knockback spell, skill or item from a distance? Save at the top or the portcullis and try a few strategies. One you should never do is sneak behind up up against the cliff. It will always end badly. Hope that helps!

i wasn't asking for help lol,

my point was the ai is broken for that encounter. she's obviously programmed to run away the first turn and then immediately runs BACK towards the bugbear the next turn. It's happened everytime i didn't kill the bugbear the first round.

Ah my bad, still it might help be of use to another person! I agree it is not normal that she goes back and attack the bugbear.

If she really runs back to the bugbear, the seems like a big oversight...

I dont care who is trying to get that coin back.
I like to think about amassing a lot of coins to later buy some very important help in Hell.
Like either buy myself free of something or to negotiate with "Raphael" or "Zariel".
Something in this kind needs a lot of Soulcoins, so come on go bring em to me.

All I really wanted to know if she has something interesting/useful/relevant to say if she survives. It doesn't sound like it.

I'm starting to think she's supposed to bite the dust so the party can get a free soul coin...

I think most people save her without particular issues, actually.
Not sure what makes you think she’s “supposed to” die there. It doesn’t really take much effort to step in and deal with the bugbear.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

You have to know she's there to save her. The three times I've been through the Druid Grove I've gone directly to the Sacred Pool, then end up approaching Nadira's outcropping from the steep side while exploring the Grove. The bugbear triggers before I even realize he and Nadira are at the top, and boom she's dead. I haven't made saving her a priority, and wanted to know if it was worth the effort, or reloading.

Frankly I found it easier to save Findal, mostly due to the advantage of surprise. The bugbear seems to trigger based on the party's proximity, whereas you can sneak up on the goblins threatening Findal and take them out before they can do much of anything.
