I almost did the same thing. I opened a tomb and managed to kill the liche, but used so many potions doing so, I re-loaded the save just before I entered and marked it on my map, intending to come back later when I was stronger.
You do not need a previous save to get the files needed to fix the quest; ones from a new game will work.
