Not everyone knows or needs to know you have a tad pole. It depends on how forthcoming you are in game. You can play the entire grove without anyone the wiser.

I don't really think that being able to become a shadow druid really needs to be a priority for the game, since I don't get the sense that they're going to be relevant once their questline is over. Maybe getting more of a reward would be good, but I'm not sure what more is really needed or useful beyond that.
