When you go to Aunti Ethel's house and start the initial conversation with her, you can switch to another character and just beat her down. Here is exactly what I did.
Met Ethel in Druid town, was nice to her.
Met Ethel on way to her house and sided with her, knocked the brothers out (non-lethal combat)
Entered Ethel's house and initiated conversation with main character
While main character was in conversation, I switched to Shadowheart and cast Silence on her. Then proceeded to attack Ethel with Both Shadowheart, and Laezel (Both in non-lethal mode)
Once she was knocked out, I was able to loot her trade items and gold.
Once she is knocked out, Mayrina doesn't react and you are unable to strike up a conversation with her. If you go into the hag's secret lair, she does appear and gets angry etc etc and you can continue on like normal. *edit* actually, the end fight doesn't trigger. You can loot all of her items and take the mushroom portal to the outside where mayrina's husband is. You have to go back to Ethel's house where you killed her and she will reappear as knocked out. Once you actually kill her things progress more like they should.
