I was just doing a new playthrough of DOS:2 and it felt a lot snappier there.
I think a lot of it will be ironed out more in the full release, the game is definitely not optimized, nor should it be at this stage.
One example I found that is really rather simple, but really affects the feel of the game, is how character movement is executed.
In BG3, if you order your character to move somewhere behind their field of view, they will 1) turn around, and 2) start moving. Those 2 things are executed sequentially, it's 1 and then 2. In DOS2, the turn around animation occurs at the same time as the character is moving, so the response feels more "immediate". BG3 has more of an inertia to how commands in the UI or in the world are executed, and I hope the inertia will disappear, as it really makes a rather stark difference when going through DOS:2, especially since I think the games are based on the same engine (not sure about that one) ?
I bring up Mario a lot, which is a bit of a spurious comparison, but when you press right or left in Mario, Mario just goes right or left. No turn animation, no slow rampup to run speed, nothing, he just goes. DOS:2 was a bit more like that than BG3.
