Like for example when you rescue Shadowheart on the Nautiloid. Before I got the thought that she was less than trusting because of the gith. And she says something about dangerous company. Started another character and this time her thoughts about guardedness and a will to survive.

Not sure what causes the difference if anything.

That's weird, the second dialogue about guardness should trigger when you're alone or at least without Lae' zel.

Maybe it's something silly like even though I have Lae'zel she's further away? I mean we're in the same room just a difference in where she is

I think this is it and this is what I was about to suggest. Maybe if she is too far when the conversation start Shadowheart acts as if she is not present
