I don't think this is going to have any bearing on BG3's development.
The real question is how it's going to affect the inevitable sequel.
I disagree
If BG3 sells well, they'll think they can do no wrong so they'll do whatever they want with BG4 and 5.5E does not matter.
If it tanks and sells poorly, they will not bother with BG4.
