What if there were an item editor with RiftRunner? Think of the endless possibilities, like making weapons from your favorite book or movie! I don't think it would require much work but I am sure many people will love it. Sure some cheaters would make their powergaming weapons but who cares? Or the user-made weapons could be dropped at random in the Battlefields. I would die for an item editor . As for the other part of my post: I understand you can control either the Deathknight or the Paladin (whatever that do-gooder is called)? I mean you're not bound to control only one character, you can switch right? EDIT: Almost forgot my offtopic question (I just hate to swarm the boards with my posts so I will type it here): In the RiftRunner FAQ I saw a notice about chess. Could it be that the game will include some sidegame (like Acromage in Might and Magic and that card game in Final Fantasy)? Sorry if the questions are unrelated

if the Larians would just provide an editor for us to make mods, ALL can be edited and that would be VERY cool

Of course I am not asking for Aurora, but Arcanum and NWN had many editors. What I would like, it's a mere item maker! (I wanna do some famous weapons, i made stuff for BG II when I was 12, people liked them)

Apparently we won't see an editor until Divinity 2

That was mentioned in RPGDot's interview, which I found out about from the topic RPGDot Interview.

As I said somewhere else here, Modding the DD engine is extremely hard to do, It needs very good knowledge of it's scripting language, You'll have to pre-render all new chars/monsters/items etc you make using expesnive 3D software and soon and so on.
3D, as Far easier to mod, 1 set of rules for all 3D such as the gravity etc, animations could be coded in far any 3D model, so you only have to model and skin, add sounds and you've a fully functional model, with some animation work you'll have a new monster.
It's one of these days...

What about an ingame editor called "the Blacksmith" where you can order your personal weapon with optional abilities and a design of your choice in exchange of some gold coins

An even interesting idea would be ordering special weapons and armour that demands more than just money but rather other items to be included, which demands completing a quest. This reminds me of the dragonheart armour. So our ideas are not too far fetched, right? In myth there are weapons forged by dwarves that needs the blood of a dragon in which the red hot sword, for example is hardened, thus, our Blacksmith might demand a jug supply of that dragon blood to make the weapon you ordered. Another option is to embed magical gems in the handle of the weapon or in the armour different parts to enhance resistances or give offensive abilities to a weapon. A very special and enchanted green emerald could be the secret behind a poison (5) damage given to a weapon. A very special and enchanted red ruby could be the reason behind life drain ability. A very special and enchanted blue sapphire could be the way to make your weapon drain manna, and so forth. Each magical item might demand completing a randomly generated quest, which is much more rewarding than creating weapons by random generation as in . What da-ya-think?

I like it. A blacksmith can create items with enhancements from a limited list, such as extra damage, extra speed, and extra offense, basically any that can be implemented mechanically. You can add additional enhancements by providing certain items or ingredients. This could be an alternative to charming weapons. By collecting different charms such as Poison of the Hydra and Vampire's Teeth, you can add enhancements like Poison Damage (5) and Life Drain (3).
This reminds me of Neronomicon, a Sci-Fi MMORPG, where you can build weapons and items by collecting parts (useless while separate) and a blue-print and throwing them into your personal factory. Some time later, a new fully functional item pops out. It adds fun to hunting for rare parts.

The truth to be told, I'd rather have the charms again, not the gemstones. Gemstones were in Diablo 2, if there will be in DD, people will call it "rip-off". Items-on-demand are interesting, I mean if you gather dragonscales and such... It was used in several games before so I wish Larian would make it more original... Like if you order a weapon, you can name it yourself(every good weapon need a name).

The charms already are a rip-off from D2.
I was mainly refering to the german Pen&Paper "The Dark Eye" where you can order a "personal weapon" form a master of smithcraft that is more blanced and crafted for your hands (and therefore not so effective in the hands of other people).

The moment I saw charms I likened them to the Diablo 2 gemstones. But a cosmetic change is good. I'd like to see more done with charms though. Let's take it to the next level! Items-on-demand are interesting, I mean if you gather dragonscales and such... It was used in several games before so I wish Larian would make it more original... Like if you order a weapon, you can name it yourself(every good weapon need a name). If the game has sets of armour, why can't you make your own set if you're such a hero? I believe that if you can collect a matching suit of armour (eg. Chain Boots, Chain Mail, Chain Gloves, Chain Leggings, Helm), and have it all enchanted in some way, then you should get an additional bonus for wearing all of that set. Each item would be called The <armour piece> of <insert name here>, or better still, renamed by yourself. You could only do this once in the game, at a very special place, and the pre-requisits would be quite strict.

The moment I saw gemstones in Diablo 2, I likened them to the materia in Final Fantasy VII (the basis for the magic system, as well as providing stat bonuses and different skills). If my memory was better or I had played more RPGs, I could come up with older examples of being able to customize equipment or get bonuses by using charm-like objects.

uh, correct me if i'm wrong but where's the game mechanics as what the topic mentioned above?
i didn't miss the item editor issue. blacksmith feature will be great & more stable & balanced than an external program that edits items. it should flow with the storyline & make the items generated more meaningful. after all, RPG is more story-based than any other game genre except adventure. ok, u can shoot me if i'm wrong.
quest-based items are really great & making sets out of them is awesome. forging parts that u found much like the dragon armor with the dragon heart etc.. should have some kind of impact on parts of the storyline or at least reputation of the character. say, u kill a dragon 2 get its blood/heart/liver/whatever 2 forge some weapon/armor but by killing it u get minus in reputation as its death is unnecessary & 2 certain extend cruel. every action will have impact on the character, either directly or indirectly.
maybe u guys/gals can come up with better ideas.

speaking of blacksmith. i just playing dungeon siege. and what i realy don't like is if you cleared an area and come to a merchant otr smith the items has "upgraded" to a higher armor class , damage, etc. but the upgrade was always to high for my party. the prices went up "way"!.
in i saw that the merchants had a refreshment of equipment from time to time but the stats of these items were mostelu the same! it's when you went to the dwarven halls or that elve who sells good bows (and verry good armour) you could find better equipment.
what kind of approutch the larians are going to take now?
will a merchant have more heavier equipment as your stats go up? but more balanced than dungeon siege? or wil there a symular system in or 2? like as before
