I'll jump on this thread and add just my "me too"
i'm not native english so I don't know exactly how to explain but I have to make crippling efforts reading either on laptop (please don't judge me!) and on the 50' TV.
UI and fonts are too small for me, yes. But thickness of letters and color combination between text and background sometimes don't help even if I lean closer.
Maybe adding a 1pixel line of pitch black or white-white on letters could do the magic. I don't mean a line all around the letter, just on 2 sides like bottom&right, bottom&left etc. This woud give a 3d appearance to the text as a side effect but most importantly would make reading always easyer whatever colors there are. There are some (kinda) gray on black, pink on purple or other tone on tone texts I gave up trying to read, so sad!
