Dirt should be on the clothes first and face last. Dirty face is such an extreme where you have been through mud, ash and fire for days and are too tired to wipe it off. Like Frodo and Sam at the end of their journey at Mt. Doom. In BG3 characters look like that after their first minor skirmish.
And how do the characters get that dirty that quickly in such a clean pristine environment?
