Larian are really good at watering down the classes. For some reason, they want everyone to be able to do everything.

Rogues have lost their essence as you pointed out and Wizards don't feel so special when Fighters are casting spells from scrolls just like they are, arcane incantations and all. Which non-casters should be clueless about.

D&D has restrictions on what classes can do, yes. But that's why you have multi-classing to combine those abilities to your liking. Maybe they don't understand the multi-classing concept properly.
