Before starting a new game attempted to delete old patch 5 save, game minimized and got 3-4 windows error messages saying access denied. The messages then repeat themselves every time the game tries to auto-save and fails to do so, effectively being unable to save the game. Manual saving is prone to failure as well if the messages don't minimize the game and are not closed.

I got exactly the same problem, the game is unplayable now with Patch 6 because every time it tries to autosave or I try to manually save I get error messages from the system that access is denied.

I have this problem too, at least the auto and quick save problem.

Having the same issue. About to give up on playing until I see a fix.

edit - it is definitely avast antivirus for me. I turned it off for 5 minutes and the problem went away. Obviously, Im not going to play without my antivirus enabled, so it still needs to be fixed - just adding context if the devs are reading.

After reading your edit, I went into my AV and added the game to my exceptions list, and it cleared the issue out, so far. I was able to quick save, auto saves went through, and I just saved and quit with no crashes.

Can confirm that AVG Antivirus behaved the same. Added BG3 folder to exceptions and problem went away!

Setting an exemption in Avast worked for me as well. It looks like my issue was with the AVAST Ransomware Shield and my documents folder specifically.
