I am interested in the opinion of the community.

There are a lot of NPCs in the game, especially in the Grove of the Druids and the Goblin Camp.

Now the player must come up and try to talk to everyone in order to understand whether there is an opportunity to start a full-fledged dialogue with the answer options, or whether there will be only 1 line of dialogue.

Should this be a feature of the game, or would it be nice to somehow highlight the NPCs that have dialogue lines for the player? For example, it is very easy to miss a goblin with a ring, or some important information if you do not explore the location in detail on purpose

Thanks to Larian for Baldurs Gate 3 and the reaction to player feedback

I agree.
I'd like an option to have an icon appear above every character to show which characters have new dialogue (similarly to how party members have an "!" above them when they have special dialogue events).
Something like...

"!" [red]
This character has new dialogue and main quest information (information starting or furthering quests).

"!" [green]
This character has new dialogue and side quest information.

"!" [blue]
This character has new dialogue but no quest information.

"!" [grey]
This character has quest dialogue but no new dialogue.

"+" [red/green] (combines with "!")
This character requires an item for a quest, and the party/camp already has it.

"+" [grey]
This character requires an item for a quest, but the party/camp doesn't have it yet.

"..." [blue]
This character has new dialogue, but no dialogue choices.

"..." [grey]
This character has no new dialogue, and no dialogue choices.

I kind of like it how it is. Some characters I play would stop and talk to random people, others wouldn't care for any delays. Exploring and gathering information should be rewarded, telling the player who to talk to is a bit too much hand holding.

I might agree if characters with simple dialogue had their dialogue appear like party member banter dialogue, but they go into cinematic dialogue mode which takes a lot of time to get through.
If someone has poor memory or wants to know if any characters actually have more to say after quests and events, they'll likely end up often seeing the same dialogue.

For me, I like that they go into that cinematic dialogue mode, but it gets annoying when I keep seeing the same dialogue, and it takes too long to see what dialogue each character has in an area.

A solution has already been suggested for monthes...
Don't trigger a cinematic with NPCs you can't answer.

Highlight things, especially with ! would be awefull.
Just like when your docile companions have something to tell you but are waiting for you to come.

It's nice to see the cinematic dialogue.
Maybe they could make it so that it goes to non-cinematic dialogue after having the cinematic dialogue appear once.

Being able to choose to have your party members talk to you instead of having the "!" would be nice.

As for highlighting being awful, we already have highlighting for characters and for objects.
Having the ability to toggle dialogue indicators wouldn't be bad.

If we can't change all the one-line cinematic dialogues into just text boxes, then this solution is the next best thing.

First interactions with NPCs are cinematic. Then if the NPC has nothing new to say and there are no player response options, just have a text box dialogue appear over the NPC's head when you talk to them.

Agree. Don't trigger a cinematic with NPCs you can't answer.

I am with the folks here. NPC barks shouldn't cut away to cinematics.

I respectfully disagree.
Cinematics are very interresting for dialogs.
Cinematics for a sentence are not in my opinion.

Your solution is better than nothing but I'd really like better not to loose 5 to 10 seconds each time. It may already annoying in the goblin camp... what is it going to be in Baldur's Gate ?

[Text box] or [cinematic] leads to the same result as your previous suggestion but without the need to add any highlighting.

I don't mind having a cinematic for a small cut scene. I think it's pretty cool that every comment and conversation gets a cut scene. Not sure why it's enough of an issue to worry about.

[Text box] or [cinematic] leads to the same result as your previous suggestion but without the need to add any highlighting.

Ideally, this would be added to the options menu...
Short Dialogue Appearance:
[Text]
[Cinematic]
[Cinematic Once]

As for highlighting (well, indicators, actually), it's not needed to resolve the problem with cinematic short dialogue taking a lot of time, since the more simple alternative is to have those options added or to just remove cinematic short dialogue (though that one wouldn't be good).
However, indicators are needed to resolve the problem with talking to characters who keep saying the same thing.

Knowing if a character has new dialogue would save a lot of time, and like you said, the problem with cinematic short dialogue can be annoying enough as it is in the goblin camp, so what's periodically checking every character for new dialogue going to be like in Baldur's Gate?
Well, obviously, the answer is that it would be far more time-consuming than it needs to be.

I would like if people who have only one line of dialouge don't trigger a cinematic scene. Otherwise I think its ok how it is now.
