Definitely not a fan of the current UI either.
It's one of these systems that probably started with the idea of "making everything simpler" but turned out to be utterly inadequate for the design goals of the game' systems, so all the subsequent attempts to "improve" over this foundation keep failing.
The proverbial "trying to put lipstick on a pig".
Honestly I think they should just give up on trying to salvage the hotbar system and start some side project just focused on remaking a new UI from scratches.
...Of course, while not forgetting to ditch the chain system on the process, as we are on it (yeah, yeah, I know. Like a broken record).
