when I complained about it in a thread about bugs, someone politely mentioned the button mapping entry called "toggle combat mode" which is associated with tab by default and will make your character draw or sheath their weapon. note that it won't work when equipped with the everburn blade, which would, I guess, everburn your whole back side.
