Hello all, I am glad to be part of a community platform for one of my favorite game studios! This is my first post and it will be a simple one. I tend to be direct, to the point and I like to discuss things like the civilized people we are.
Now that I have introduced my self briefly, on to the post.

The game is amazing. Good work Employees and leaders of Larian Studios. I can't wait for the finished product. I am 95 hours I am still discovering stuff... this world is so good... I can't wait to see the other areas.
I love the creepy atmosphere of the hag's bog so I am patiently waiting to see what the shadowlands will look like. Being in early access for a while now has piqued my interests in making the game more challenging.
My initial thought was ok lets do a solo run because its harder with no party or healer. While it is Baldur's Gate it still feels like a lot like a Larian game but to my surprise the game does not like it if you try to solo.
By solo I mean not interacting with any of the companions. I was able to get to grymforge without anyone in my party or camp by skipping the goblin camp but once you get to the goblin camp, your game starts to get finicky.
The cutscene when shadowheart's stolen artifact saves you from the voice calling to you trips the game up because shadowheart (or anyone) is not in your party/camp.
Refusing her to join still will be ok and the game seems to play fine but once you get to any vendor to sell something or switch things around in your inventory the game just closes on you. And in all my 95 hours, this was the first time I seen this issue.
I could be wrong but I am guessing the game is not okay with having my party and camp empty. It is Baldur's Gate 3, right? Would you be ok with being able to have solo playthroughs in Baldur's Gate 3 like Larian Studios did with their previous titles?

Really interesting that you tried this. It sounds like the artifact corrupts your inventory somehow if you do a solo playthrough.
They really should allow you to go through the game solo, though I imagine it requires a lot of reactivity they haven't implemented yet.

This is good data. I have not tried to do solo without having most of the companions at least in camp. I wonder what's causing the crash.

In multiplayer we kill all the companions and it doesn't cause any issues. You have to take the artifact with you - it follows you around.

I was surprised at how easy it was to do, it almost felt intended but my playthrough is was fine until I got to the goblin camp. Now its broken once I try to buy or sell something.
If you want to try Act 1 solo:
1. Let Lae'zel accompany you and avoid Shadowheart in the nautiloid.
2.let her die when you are going for the transponder. her corpse will appear at the beach where you start Act 1.
3. She will not be in your party. Do no resurrect her.
4. Avoid all known locations where you have initial interactions with companions. Going to the Goblin camp will spawn shadowheart next to you no matter what.

The game will still give you the option to refuse her to join even though she insists very strongly.
It was very cool though that this was actual dialogue. Very interesting indeed.

If you don't interact with any companions, you never will get the artifact. I guess because I didn't help shadowheart escape, I never got the option to steal it from her while she was unconscious.
Very interesting to know if I can bypass this bug if I DO save her at the beginning but it might cause her to join my party/camp.

It's clearly a bug. You should definitely be able to play the game without any companion. Good find. Hope they fix it.

Thanks. I guess I will post it on the technical issues forum as well.

I found this out role-playing as a con man. I rescued Shadowheart just to take her equipment and sell it, then refused to have her join my party or my camp. When she appeared out of nowhere on the goblin bridge, in nothing but her underwear, I felt like the DM was railroading the campaign like crazy. "You're lucky I got here in time", she says, half naked. Lady, I ripped you off! Take the hint and go away!

Sorry that this is off topic, I just had to get it off my chest.

I did a solo playthrough after the druid patch came out and this never came up, but I was also doing it as a speed run to the black lake crossing so never even went to the goblin camp (flew down the entrance in the well in bird form).

this is a very interesting issue, and a good data point. Please, if you can spare the time, submit a report to Larian's official bug reporting form as well (you can find it here: https://larian.com/support/baldur-s-gate-3?ver=4.1.1.1233832#modal ). Include a description like this (just copy paste it if you want, but the more detail the better if you can), and also include a save file where the issues can be replicated or easily reproduced. This would be a big help.
