I am unsure what is happening but occasionally the light level will go to total darkness at the end or start of a turn before going to normal if I switch character. This happens in and out of combat. I thouight it was darkvision but it seems to be a bug which is really annoying. Drow, elf or humans suffer this same temporary total darkness. It is not game breaking but really annoying as it breaks the flow of the game pissing about swapping chgaracters until the light returns to normal.
