But when I play and have to deal with language where creatures are being excessively crude for the sake of being excessively crude - more than is even really believable; where they're referencing sexual acts and clearly intended them as insults, or referring to others as various sexual organs, and clearly intending those as insults.... I find that just... off-putting. It's quite possible to convey that these people are rude, crude and uncouth without all of that; it's supposed to be, in universe, a bit gross and unpleasant, yes, but there's a fine distinction between that, and genuinely making it unpleasant for the player. If the player is finding the experience to be unpleasant and off-putting, then it's detracting from the experience and the game, no matter how 'realistic' it might be intended to be. I personally do not care for it. I feel like it misses the mark very poorly.

For me, this would be a day hanging out with the people I worked with back in the day, or most of this Sunday, where I'll be riding in a Toy Run, with a bunch of other bikers. I was born a Navy Brat. I've been in the military, and I've worked as a bouncer at strip clubs. I worked construction for years. My niece posted a meme where it was commenting on flipping a friend a bird, and I said "So you're just saying "mornin'", because good morning would have taken both hands". Yes, if it's not talking to my mom, or my younger niece on the phone, don't put me on speaker. So I don't find the language "off-putting", but more of a thing that, before I became largely confined to my house, 16 years ago, was part of my daily routine. My foreman once commented that his penis was short, but could touch the sides of a tuna can. I asked him if it really counts if it takes a half hour to do it.

I'm down for the fade to black suggestion, as I've repeatedly stated, I may even use it myself. I'm not all that fussed about getting sex scenes. Not because I find them offensive, or "off-putting", but because it just doesn't matter if they're there or not. With very few exceptions, I'm not gay, so I don't do gay romances, I've probably actually done most of it in real life. I tried to stop one of the strippers at the club from trying to remove the elastic off my underwear on stage during a birthday lap dance, because I was running Commando that day. It didn't work, but I tried. So it's definitely not that it bothers me in the slightest, just that I've been there, done that, and it's like billiards for me. It's fun and all, but I'd really rather play, than watch. Short of completely rewriting the game though, I'm not sure how they deal with language. One man's trash is another man's treasure, and all, and while the language isn't really a treasure for me, it's not something that I haven't heard, on a daily basis.
