That creature just doesn't make any sense.
If he is completely indestructible and immune to everything when not in lava, take him to the surface! Build a few more. Conquer some nations. Let them raze Baldur's Gate. Nothing can stop them without a river of lava. (Except any level 1 Fighter with a wooden club and some kiting friends when there IS lava available.)
