I am willing to go with Eliette being the Matriach, especially with that one telling line, but I still not sure she is the apprentice.
I've been looking through my trunk and I can't find where he talks about using travelers for his experiments but I could have sworn I read that somewhere, if anyone can corroborate.
I just noticed that the school rote says "someone has to investigate what's become of the missing children and their families Is it possible whole families were being nabbed? Also, the missing children is a trigger for Shadowheart, making me think it's more related to the Sharrans than to the necromancer.
