So, I used persuasion to enter initially, then killed the three leaders to rescue Halsin. I now have to re-enter but there are just too many goblins, and they slow down my computer attacking in waves to the point it is not quite fun, since, every moment, someone new comes along and they seem to notice wherever I hide.

I have avoided doing cheats and tricks thus far, but am struggling to get past this short of killing some and retreating, to try again, which is not that exiting.

Is there a better strategy to get back inside the temple Am I missing something?

So you want to get inside the temple while not fighting the goblin army?

There is few options for you ... first of all, invisibility. laugh
Then you can jump down from the cliff you can acess from Waukeen's Rest ... if you walk to that bridge where you meet Githyanki patrol, but you go south, you can see some smaller broken bridge, only high Str characters are able to jump over it, but if you killed Minthara you should have Misty Step neck ... then you simply jump down (dont even need Slow Fall, its dont hurts so bad, but it hurts) you break the wall and you are in.


I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. frown
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are! frown

Also, I totally get that picking off the goblins one by one takes a lot of the fun out of the game. But I like to sneak around and kill a few of them off stealthily until the odds are a great challenge...but not insurmountable.

Thanks Joe. I don’t really like leaving a temple desecrated in that way by the goblins plus I never really explored it much on the way. So I picked off the ones I could, and engaged the remainder on the bridge. It was a brutal fight, but I managed to take the courtyard.

This is how I dealt with it.

Having cleared out the goblin camp from the inside and exited out the back way, I decided to go around to the front and take on the Goblins in the courtyard. Given that should you try and take them on from inside you quickly get overwhelmed I used the Bridge to my advantage, by covering it in oil and picking the goblins off with Archers and spells as they try to get across the bridge.

1. Send your wizard halfway down the bridge and cast Minor Illusion so the two goblins guarding the gate go to investigate... once they get there it will trigger the battle.

2. Once it's the wizards turn, throw a bottle of oil where the goblins who investigated are (careful not to hit the torch or it will explode) then either walk/jump or use Misty Step to go back to the rest of the party who will then roll initiative and join the battle.

3. Use either Wizards Grease spell or another bottle of oil to cover more of the bridge until most of the bridge is covered.

4. Pick off any advancing goblins with your archers/spells.

5. Cast Fog Cloud close to the gate to blind any goblins/ogre there and to prevent the goblins behind the cloud from advancing (they won't enter the cloud)

6. Continue to pick off the goblins.

7. when all the goblins you can reach with ranged attacks are dead, use the wizard to cast a different spell which will mean the fog will stop manifesting, this will allow the remaining goblins/ogre to advance.

8. continue to kill them with ranged attacks.

9. when all goblins/ogre is dead, firebolt the bridge to burn the oil, then use your cleric to create water and put out the fire.

10. Cross the bridge and take out the remaining few goblins using melee and ranged attacks.

I am using Stadia and on the controller, I couldn't save without it crashing, though if I jumped onto the PC version of stadia it would save without a problem.

I had a great deal of fun doing this smile

Use the waypoint in the goblin camp to enter and immedately summon the ogres. The game will still lag some, but the big guys should take the majority of the agro for you.

You can only poison the booze before you have killed the three leaders. Once you have killed them - like OP did - all the goblins outside automatically aggro on you.

But yeah, it's much easier when you clear the outside first, since you can take them all on in groups. Poisoning the group in the main courtyard cuts down their numbers, and weakens the remaining. And as long as you keep your team to the "chicken chase" side, you won't aggro the group on the waypoint side. Till your ready for them. Position your ranged party members on high ground before starting each fight, and they all go pretty easily.

I, as all else, did things in a slow and painful way on my first playthrough - which is still ongoing.

Rescued Sazza, and walked past the outer outpost. Then started picking off goblins from the front gate onwards by assassination and small ambushes. One slice at a time.

Slow, methodical and a truckload of save scumming.

Cleared the temple, got to the Underdark, found Halsin, killed the bosses.

Only have the main gallery of the goblin camp with baddies, whom I can just bypass.

Not the ideal way, but it saved me when they beat on wardrums and no one responds.
