First thing I always did on a playthrough of Neverwinter Nights 2 was cheat in a "Labourer's Shade" hat for my Drow character to wear against the sun. The item didn't do anything, but it was a satisfying bit of immersion for me.
So, yes to accessories! Best loot is loot that looks good on your character.

I would be willing to give soul (not mine tho) to Vlaakith for visual Githyanki gloves, boots, crown(?) and weapon for Lae'zel.

And many many many many other things.
No stats needed, i just want my characters to feel pretty.
