Thematically heavier? The beginning is about an alien race of psychic cephalopods who reproduces like Xenomorphs (minus the rape imagery) invading earth.
Agreed the premise is conceptually dark but the tone is somewhat lessened by some of the game design mechanics/elements and Larian's style is hardly what I would call serious.
