On a related note, I actually like the homebrew of learning more cantrips. It makes no sense a Wizard can learn all leveled spells but not all cantrips.

At any rate 3 cantrips is way too few. The most basic setup of an Attack cantrip, Mage Hand and Light already use up your 3 picks so it's not really about choosing anything. There's no room for fun stuff like Minor Illusion, a defensive cantrip like Blade Ward or a secondary attack cantrip for melee or an alternate damage type. And with all the fun explosive stuff Larian likes to place everywhere, you need Fire Bolt and can't really choose Acid Splash, Ray of Frost or Poison Spray for that reason alone. It feels really stingy.

I don't see it as much of a balance issue either if the Cantrip selection was larger or more flexible. Martials got their weapon skills, casters could get a better selection of cantrips for that reason alone.
