Nere enconter is quite funny ...
If you want to maximalize your outcome and are willing to step out of your role for a second ... you can easily kill every single Duergar (if you sided with them) and nobody will move a muscle.
But once you use any AoE, or surface effect attack ... and some gnome WILLINGLY step into it ... they all turn hostile, since you just hurt them.
